Explore artistic expression as a path to gently release perfectionism, connect with your inner child, and find joy and self-compassion. This is about learning art as a playful and impactful tool to be fully present – messy, curious, and open – and finding meaning in the creative process. You'll leave with several lovely pieces of original artwork, the foundational knowledge of watercolor and mixed media play, a stronger self-connection, and somatic and creative tools to continue to gently release perfectionism and rediscover creative expression as a path to joy and self-compassion. It takes courage, not confidence, to start painting; the joy is undeniable once you dive in!
Class details: Hosted at Studiolife on Saturday, October 11 from 1-4pm
Our class will begin by setting intentions to create a welcoming and safe container for exploration. With gentle somatic grounding and mindfulness practices, as well as reflective journaling exercises, Dez will lead us in cultivating present moment awareness and full body connection with ourselves while connecting art practices for joy and healing perfectionism.
Watercolor and mixed media play instruction will follow, with Sarah leading us in an introduction to watercolor painting, and focusing on foundational techniques and color theory. Through guided instruction, we will explore various methods for applying watercolor and understanding how colors interact, color mixing, composition, and mixed media play. You do not need any artistic experience to join us, and all artistic skill levels are welcome. Our creative play will culminate in the creation of a personal piece of artwork – a visual love letter – with its creation and use as practical as it is joyful to create. You will leave class with completed artwork, and all of the tools to continue to create at home.
Expression over perfection.
Play over performance.
The growth is in the doing.
So much in life depends on how we see ordinary, everyday moments. Join us for this special class to choose WONDER over WORRY, and learn to choose it as a mindful and joyful practice.
